The Volkswagen Group unveiled the Bluesport concept car and expressed that this concept will be at work in three models that will be launched under Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche marquees. The Audi R5 is going to be based on this concept. This is based on the Mittelmotor architecture, popularly known as MiMo which is developed by Volkswagen. This architecture offers the engine positioning in the middle. Audi cars are mostly known for being a front engine car. Audi R5 might be the first such car launched by Audi AG that would have a rear positioned engine.
There was a buzz in the air that Audi may ditch the idea of producing Audi R5 because it would have potentially eaten into the market share of Audi TT and Porsche Cayman. However the Audi R5 will be positioned in such a strategic manner that it will be placed between the high end Audi R8 and the lower end Audi TT. The car Audi R5 is most likely going to be put together in the Karmann factory in the Osnabruck city of Austria.

Audi-Quattro-ConceptAs far as the engine possibilities are concerned, a hybrid version of the Audi R5 is all the more likely as the concept which it will be based on called e tron concept that does comes in a hybrid mode. Most of the models that the new Audi R5 will be launched with are going to have the internal combustion engines. The models may have 2.0 liter TSI engines and the highest end model may come with a 2.5 liter turbo engine.
The emission levels are a concern for all the car makers around the world because of the increasing heat from the regulating agencies. The low emission engines such as the 2.0 liter ones may help Audi R5 achieve an overall lesser emission which will be in accordance with the requirements from the regulating agencies.
Coming to the looks and outer appearance of the Audi R5, it is most likely to be launched in a coupe as well as an open top roadster form. This will potentially be appealing to both buyer categories, people who want to buy a drop top as well as those who prefer the coupe character. The appearance has not yet been disclosed but we believe this will have a traditional Audi feel to its looks. There should not be any bold change in the design characteristics of the car. As far as we believe, the car is going to be a compact one. This is said to be 3.9 meters long which makes it fairly short a car for a car of this segment.
The interior details have also not been disclosed. However this is going to be a two seater. Audi’s legacy has always been that it offers best in class material on the interiors and there is no reason why that should not be followed.
The much awaited Audi R5 car is expected to hit the roads in 2014.
