Skoda’s Stepping Ahead with Mission L
Skoda Auto, the Czech car maker which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen group. This is more of an entry brand which is strategically kept so for a reason by the multi marquee group. Skoda has strengthened its presence in a number of regions across the world in recent times. The company traces its history way back in 1859 when it started out as an arms manufacturer.
Skoda Auto has brought an all new concept sedan which is called Skoda MissionL which is a four door car. The car is slated to be launched in India for the first time, later on which will be introduced into European, Russian and Chinese car markets. India launch is slated to go by the end of 2011. On the other hand, the launch in other demographics will be taking place by 2012. Skoda has, on its mind, the need to increase the sales numbers as much as possible. Just to put the plan into perspective and some crisper numbers it can be said that Skoda wants to hit a heady 1.5 million sales around the world by the year 2018. Skoda says that the launch of the new Skoda MissionL is a model offensive. Skoda has hinted that the other upcoming launched will be based on the same design cues that the new Skoda MissionL comes with. As far as the positioning of the models in the market is concerned, the MissionL model is placed between the Fabia and Octavia. Skoda also says that it will be launching new models every six months.
Skoda Auto is ready to take on the competitors such as Ford Focus and Opel/Vauxhall Astra with the launch of Skoda MissionL.
For the looks the Skoda official Eckhard Scholz said “The car has a strong, sporty look which conveys a beautiful simplicity and a youthful and contemporary appearance. Many people look for clean, minimalistic lines, and the Mission L concept offers all that.”
As far as the exteriors are concerned, Skoda’s design team has done a great job. Skoda MissionL does manage to look great for a car. The size of MissionL is 4.5 meters long. This new version in India is speculated to be called “Lauretta”
“Revealing the look of our new compact model, the MissionL shows exactly the direction our brand is going to take. The world premiere in Frankfurt gives a clear signal that SKODA is going full steam ahead now. We are going to present a new vehicle every six months over the next two or three years,” Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, SKODA Board Chairman, said.
As far as the engine is concerned the new Skoda MissionL will probably offer different trim levels in different markets as per the requirements and Skoda’s strategy. It seems most likely the new Skoda MissionL will be sporting a 1.6 liter engine.
Price details have not yet been disclosed. Even technical details are also not available as of now. All these doubts will be cleared once and for all during its launch in the Frankfurt Auto Show this year.
