The show which is regarded as one of the greatest car shows of the year has hosted journalists from around the world who have sweating to cover each and every bit of the show. Nothing can be missed. Even a single miss would be a huge lost opportunity that no car enthusiast can afford. Some of the biggest launches awaited by the car lovers are the iconic names such as Porsche 911 Carrera, Mercedes-Benz AMG Roadster SLS etc.

The leading German car maker BMW which is regarded as one of the best in luxury car segment is no exception. When it came to releasing some really competitive models against the rivals, BMW brought one of the stars in the form of the new 2012 BMW M5, the BMW 1 Series, the i3 and the i8 sports car. Let’s have a look at these cars individually to find out what BMW has brought this year.

The trend in this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show dictates that the car enthusiasts have a concern in terms of the fuel economy and the carbon emissions. Since the recent findings of global warming have made rounds in various kinds of media around the world, car makers in particular have started taking the implications of the changed mindset of the buyers and the regulating agencies onto their business seriously. This trend is visible in the lineups being released by almost all car makers in this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show.

BMW has reserved a considerable part of their space this year for the M model lineup. The new 2012 BMW M5 that is powered by the turbo-charged V8 engine which follows the revolutionary V10 engine carrying E60 M5. The deployment of turbocharged engine, Valvetronic and direct fuel injection technologies has made the new M5 a worthy successor of the outgoing version in terms of the fuel economy. It comes with the seven speed Drivelogic transmission. The looks are aggressive and the interiors maintain the hallmark of BMW as a brand.

Another new launch was the 2012 BMW 1 Series. The car has a bold front which sports two smaller kidney shaped grilles which are tad too small and larger headlights. This seems to be an attempt to come up with something unexpected on the part of BMW.

Then we have the “most progressive sportscar” claimed by the manufacturer in the form of BMW i8. This car is great at performance and greater at fuel economy. It is claimed to be offering 80 mpg which is simply superb. The change comes in the form of a 1.5 liter petrol engine which replaces the diesel engine.

The 2013 BMW i3 is the Bavarian’s all new rear wheel drive hatchback which is an urban vehicle for the metropolitan roads. This car is slated to cost less than a BMW 5 series sedan as reported by the CEO Norbert Reithofer.
