Toyota Corolla vs Honda Civic
The world is full of fabulous machines and among them are to marvellous pieces of creation; Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. These two cars have dominated the automobile a lot from since their birth and have continued to do so till now. The reason behind their great success is the perfect pieces of combination of interiors, engine and looks. They both offer luxurious ambience inside the cabin and decent sharp look from outside. Honda Civic looks more focused than Toyota Corolla with its aerodynamic styling. Corolla has rather pleasant looks to sooth its comfort levels.
Civic is available in 2 different forms: Coupe or a Sedan, again which are divided into 3 different category engines which vary a lot in performance. So, options are more with the Civic and consumers do love to choose among many options.
Engine
The new Honda Civic is available 2 different engines; the 1.8L and the 2.4L. The former produces a total output of 140hp and the latter pumps out 201hp. The buyer can choose between manual or automatic transmission where he has to pay some bucks extra for the 5-speed automatic option.
Toyota Corolla has only one engine option of 1.8L which outputs max power of 132hp which is slightly lower than the Civic. The torque it produces is 128lb-ft@4300rpm which is almost the same as of the Civic. The transmission here can be chosen between 5-speed manual or the 4-speed automatic.
The difference is not much if one is concerned about the engines as everything is almost the same. The buyer just has an additional option of choosing the 2.4L engine from the Civic to increase his expectations from the performance level of car.
Even the mileage also is almost the same and is 28mpg in city and 35/36mpg on highway for both cars. The Corolla buyers are actually not concerned about just the performance, what they are seeking is quite and smooth running car that is both fuel efficient and offers soft ride quality.
Interiors
Here again, the Honda Civic manages to win the game with its decently styled sportier instruments on the dashboard. The clean and neatly placed buttons don’t make a mess on the dashboard. Most of the console is digital and looks sportier than any other car. For some people, it might not work but for most of the guys, it’s great. Most of the things like track info, hands free status, common driving info gets displayed on the front display. The seats are plush and accommodate the passengers very comfortably.
The old Toyota Corolla was not having the right placement of things all around the dashboard but the newer version has got some decency. The arrangement is perfect here and looks almost perfect. This might now raise some competition level for Civic. The dials are analogue mostly with chrome highlighting for a sportier appeal. The storage compartment is designed smartly with two levels providing extra storage. There is one more storage space stuck on the roof for sunglasses.
In all, the interiors are cleanly designed in both the cars but the Civic offers more modernised theme within its cabin.
Exteriors
Both the models have recently got updated in few aspects. The exteriors are also included under this change. 2012 Civic has got new smiling grille with chrome highlight along with new bumpers. The headlights are new along with the fresh new tail lamps. The rear look is also lifted up to give a smiling look. That’s positive for the new Civic.
2012 Toyota Corolla has also got a new attractive look. From front, it still has single colour grille with slight smart look. Going to back, the looks are a little immature. The tail lights don’t match with the class of this car. The rear bumper also looks square shaped which gives the car a bulky look.
The overall looks of both the cars is good, just the rear looks of Corolla don’t go well.
Pricing
For 2012 Civic Sedan, one has to pay $15,085 for the basic model which includes features like power windows, air conditioning, rear window defroster, height adjustable seats, ABS, ECON mode, malfunction indicator and airbags. For the high end models, the features naturally get raised and the trims get more luxury.
2012 Toyota Corolla is also priced in the same segment with base price being $15,900 but it includes some extra features like air conditioning with filter, Audio system with MP3 and AUX, power door mirrors and daytime running lights.
Conclusion
No matter how advanced any from the both of cars go, each brand has its own audience. Few like the feel and luxury of Toyota Corolla appealing whereas few consider more about the high tech instrumentation of the 2012 Honda Civic.
