The highlander is often compared with the Mitsubishi Pajero, which made its debut on the Toyota Motor Show in 1981 and was later launched in 1982. As was the case with the Highlander, the Mitsubishi Pajero’s name was also found to be offensive in some of the international markets. This in turn lead the manufacturer to the use alternative names such as Montero for markets in Spain, India, and the Americas (excepting Brazil), and as Shogun for the United Kingdom.
