Mitsubishi Pajero 2011: Off-Road Freak
The all rigid featured Mitsubishi Pajero was launched in India in 2002 by the Kolkata based HM (Hindustan Motors). The SUV has been built locally to suit Indian roads and traffic conditions. The diesel engine is quite powerful which delivers great power along with a good mileage. The Pajero is basically an off road vehicle meant for long journeys. It is quite spacious and therefore can easily accommodate six passengers. HM introduced several new versions of this SUV which are actually re-vamped versions of the first model.
The vehicle carries many off-road capabilities which made this vehicle a legend in the off-road community. Now days there are many other SUVs in the market built to give a tough competition to Pajero. There has been an affect to the sales but to overcome this, company has launched the 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero. There are driving modes which allow you to change the nature of driving according to road conditions.
2011 Mitsubishi Pajero is powered with a 3.8L Turbocharged Inter-cooled diesel engine that pumps a power of 238 PS @ 5500 rpm and a torque of 329 Nm @ 2750 rpm. It has a 5-speed manual transmission and also an automatic transmission in the high end model. Gear shifting is quite effortless in manual transmission. The top speed claimed is 200 km/h. The vehicle returns a mileage of 7.8kmpl in city driving conditions and 11.1kmpl when driven on highways.
There are other options in engine too which produce somewhat less power around 189PS, but that won’t give the actual feel of the Pajero attitude.
INTERIORS & EXTERIORS
The Mitsubishi Pajero has dual-toned interiors which looks quite elegant. Standard features of the SUV include a music system with tuner and MP3 CD player. The driver seat is height-adjustable which also has lumbar support for enhanced driving comfort while undertaking long journeys. Rear seats have hand-rests along with cup holders which add to the comfort of rear seat passengers. Extra boot space can be created by folding the third-row seats which are fully-foldable.
Mitsubishi Pajero has a body-on-ladder design that makes the vehicle look sturdy. The height and ample ground clearance of the vehicle are its plus points which ensure easy entry and exit. From the outside the Pajero looks like a simple yet elegant SUV. The bumpers are bulky and painted in silver which adds to the appeal of the vehicle. There is a chrome front grille along with six-spoke alloy wheels. The Pajero offers a comfortable ride particularly to the front and second-row passengers.
The car offers two shapes in order to show off the sportier attribute: 5-door and 3-door. Although the 3-door model is not available in every area but it looks quite attractive while compromising a little bit on utility.
The latest safety features have been incorporated in the 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero to ensure complete protection to the occupants. Some of the safety fitments that come as standard fitment in the Mitsubishi Pajero are anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control, immobilizer, driver and passenger air bags and child safety locks.

The Mitsubishi Pajero that is sold in India is available in three variants – GL, GLX CRZ and SFX. The price of the Pajero in India is around $45,500 and extends upto $75,790 for the fully loaded model. There are seven colours to choose from- Navy, Carbon, Graphite, Deep Purple, Granite, Blaze and Limestone.
Indian roads are usually quite bumpy and there are lots of potholes to negotiate. In this aspect the Mitsubishi Pajero is well endowed with a suspension system that can absorb bumps and potholes quite efficiently. Its ride comfort is another notable feature. The vehicle is suitable for driving in slow moving city traffic condition as well as on highways. Being an off road vehicle the Pajero remains stable even on tough road conditions. It is a vehicle that can be easily driven on rugged terrain. On highways too it is a smooth operator. (500)
