Audi A7 vs BMW 7 Series: Two Distinct Eyes on Road
Produced by the German automaker BMW, the BMW 7 series is one of its top of the line full-size luxury vehicle. Belonging to the four door sedan segment, the 7 series was first introduced in 1977 and since then there have been five generations of the BMW 7 series evolving in technological advances and superior comfort levels. Its spacious and elegant designs provide competition in the class of elite luxury vehicles. A rear wheel drive and the option of six to eight automatic speed transmissions are two of the standard features found in all its models.
2011 BMW 7 series boasts of exquisitely crafted interiors with leather upholstery and rich wood adornments. Superior technology married to elegance, comfort and exhilarating driving power make it a prime choice in people who prefer luxury sedans. Highly adjustable seats, sleek classy style make it much in demand, though some models flaunting complicated button heavy dash boards have led many clients to go for customizations to suite their requirement.
Over the past decades the company introduced improvements in many of the models in the series, adding quality, efficiency and various technological advances to the sedan. Bringing stronger acceleration and better fuel efficiency, driving the BMW 7 series has become a joyride worth its value.
On the other hand we have the 2011 Audi A7 Sportback. It is a five door hatchback sedan (this name better suits the shape), with a front engine, QUATTRO four wheel drive system. The launch of this executive class car marked Audi’s return to the executive hatchback market since the 1970’s.
Launched by Audi in the 2010 Paris motor show, it gained early favor amongst the car lovers for its sleek design and frameless doors. Based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform, the A7 comes in three engine versions – 2.8 L V6, 3.0 L TFSI and the 3.0 L TDI V6 diesel engine. There are two transmission options in the 2011 Audi A7 Sportback – 7-speed dual clutch S tronic multitronic CVT and 8-speed tip tronic (available in the North American model).
2011 Audi A7 has been often complimented for its beautiful design, fuel efficiency, safety features and smooth driving experience. The A7 is able to distinguish itself from its competitors with its eloquent stylized interiors with a large hatchback space instead of a trunk. Its roomier features have found much favor in the younger clientele. The hi-tech interface allows a clutter free dashboard. The independent suspension and an electromechanical variable-boost power steering system provide for better precision controlled driving experience. The A7 is quick as compared to the BMW 7 Series because of its light weight construction. The car goes from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds whereas the BMW does the same for 8.1 seconds.
Unlike the BMW 7 series, the Audi A7 is less sporty and not as bulky as the models in the 7 series. While the BMW 7 series boasts of sturdier and more reliable engine, the A7 Sportback however appeals to the senses of a whole new generation of car aficionados, who find its attractive design, striking styling and cutting edge amenities, giving them an edge.
Audi will soon be offering a power-packed version called the S7. Audi S7 will carry a V8 engine pumping the car with more than 400hp. For this, the BMW too has to launch the M model that can compete in the market or else the Audi will take the share away.
Of course much debate still remains, as to which is the better car, but needless to say, what the customer is looking for, defines the final choice made. While some find Audi cool because of its style and design, BMW is preferred by others because of its sturdier make and the driving confidence it instills.
