Tata Safari Vs Mahindra Scorpio
Tata Safari and Mahindra Scorpio are the most perfect competitor in Indian Auto Market. Safari is present in the market from almost a decade ago and yet with its comfy interiors and decent styling, it is till now a darling for many SUV lovers. The model was extensively modified in 2005 and the title of Safari was changed to Safari DiCOR( Direct Injection Common Rail engine) with 3 liter engine. This 3 liter engine was the first diesel engine by Tata with Common Rail technology. Then in 2007 again a modification was made and the company launched a more powerful 2.2 ltr engine capable of producing 140 PS of power at 4000 rpm and with max torque of 320Nm at 1700 rpm. This new engine was very addicting to the people who had tried various SUVs. With 4 Wheel Drive option, Tata Safari is lot more responsive than Mahindra Scorpio.
Mahindra has always been a success in the launch of general purpose vehicles. With the launch of Scorpio, Safari finally found its competitor and then the fight started between. The sales of Safari were a lot affected after the launch of Scorpio as it looked very buggy at that time. Sooner, the company launched the all new redesigned Safari DiCOR with revised price tags to attract more buyers. With wider price belt of Safari, and with more options in models, the Safari easily reclaimed its position in the market. There is although a major distinction in Safari and Scorpio; and that could be stated as, “Safari is designed to be decent always, whereas Scorpio is aggressively designed, so buyers are potentially all different”. I won’t buy a Scorpio because aggressive looks bug me, so I would prefer Safari instead.

The max power generated by Safari is however more than Scorpio. This is because of the world class engine 2.2 VVT engine installed in it. Rest there are many other features which are mostly common in both vehicles like power windows, immobilizer, electrically adjustable side glasses and much more.
The price range of Tata Safari DiCOR starts from Rs.8lacs and the fully loaded model comes at around Rs. 12.5lacs whereas the Mahindra Scorpio prices starts from Rs7.2lacs and the final model can be bought at Rs11.4lacs.
Tata is preparing to launch a newer version of Safari by 2011. There will be new and exciting changes to the current one and I hope that it’s again going to be a boom.
